Augmented Reality can support many different use cases. Just like what is augmented and how those augmentations look changes based on the use cases, how that content should be presented by the surrounding application changes. To support this in Misterine App, we have introduced AR Presentation Styles. With these styles Misterine App can replace three apps with just one.
AR Presentations Styles control the context and look and feel of the AR content that is being presented, rather than the content itself. This introduces flexibility that allows Misterine App to support a wide range of industrial and educational AR needs.
AR Presentation Styles
Misterine AR supports 3 different modes of presentation in the App that change how the App displays the AR Content. The mode is selected as part of the AR Content creation process in Misterine Studio, our authoring software. By picking the right AR Presentation Style App adapts to the intended use of that AR Content.
AR Showcase
AR Showcases are single displays of AR Content, typically just a single 3D model. The focus is on the model that is displayed. The UI is minimized to allow the object displayed to be shown. This is ideal for Product Showcases, design reviews, AR installations, and more.
Although it is a single display focused presentation, this does not mean that it need only be a simple form of AR. Additional information can be displayed. Animations can be used. It can also be truly augmented on a physical objects, for instance as an installation piece. Examples of this include as part of an art installation to provide a view of the original undamaged sculptures by adding the missing parts “back” on or enhancing a piece of an important tree to show how insects would travel on it, including occlusions.
AR Catalog
AR Catalogs are for the display of multiple AR scenes that could be accessed in any order by the user. This presentation style allows the user to view the different scenes/3D objects in any order and keeps the focus on the AR Content by providing only a minimal UI.
Named for one of the most common uses, a catalog of products or product variations, the AR Catalog is useful for more use cases. Generally, there is a connection between the scenes: product variations (colors, woods, finishes), product lines, time, manufacturer, proposed design alternatives, etc.
AR Manual
AR Manuals are progressions of AR content that follow a general order that is set in advance, though Misterine AR supports non-linear flows.
This can be used to create experiences as well as all of the variations of manuals. This is coupled with textual information associated with each Task in the Process (terms we use in Misterine Studio). Use cases covered by AR Manuals include: Instruction Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, Assembly Manuals, Tutorials, Product Introductions, Educational Lessons, & Trainings.
Summary
AR content has various uses that require different presentations from the app. This leads either to a poor fit of content with the presentation of an app or the requirement of different AR apps to fit each need. Misterine’s no-code AR solution solves this by providing 3 AR Presentation Style.
These styles cover the needs of industrial and educational consumers and content creators. AR Showcases specialize on focused of a single piece of AR content. AR Catalogs provide the user with access to related AR content pieces with easy direct access. Guide a user through a process or a learning element with AR Manuals.
